What is Your North Star?

By ACG Practice Partners

You finished a full clinic day, walked into a team meeting, and somehow still had 47 unread messages by dinner. Sound familiar? Owning and operating an aesthetic practice means making dozens of decisions daily, often all at once and at lightning speed. To keep up, practice leaders act quickly, but not always intentionally.

In this first issue of North Star, I pose this simple but critical question: What is guiding your decisions?

When your intention is clearly defined, it becomes your North Star in a dark, starry sky. It guides you. It shapes your goals. It informs your decisions. And it keeps you from reacting in ways that don’t support your vision.

Most practices aren’t struggling because of effort. They are struggling because their direction isn’t clear. When goals aren’t defined, decisions become reactive – reacting to competitors, to staffing challenges, and to the noise of daily operations.

Reaction is not leadership.

Your North Star isn’t just a mindset – it’s a strategic vision. Every operational decision, hiring choice, and growth investment should trace back to it. Without that vision, even smart decisions can pull your practice into competing directions.

Growth Work

Last year, as I defined the business that would become ACG Practice Partners, I clarified my intentions for the company and chose my own North Star. I challenge you to do the same. Answer these three questions – in writing. They aren’t rhetorical.

  1. What do I want to be known for?
  2. What patient experience is non-negotiable across my entire team?
  3. How much revenue must I generate to support the business as well as the lifestyle I’m building?

If you can’t answer these questions, your direction isn’t clear enough, and you’ll find yourself working hard without getting the results you want. Clarity reduces reaction. Define your North Star and let it guide you.

Next month, we’ll build on this. But nothing that follows will matter as much as getting clear on this first.

To your growth,

Amy
